For nearly two decades, OCMA and the Newport Beach Film Festival have brought you independent films from around the globe through Cinema Orange, a free monthly series at the museum. Now, as we look for ways to engage our audiences during a time of social distancing, we’re screening films in your home!
Ursula Von Rydingsvard: Into Her Own
This compelling documentary portrait explores the life and work of artist Ursula von Rydingsvard. Born in Germany to Ukrainian-Polish parents, von Rydingsvard’s family was detained for five years in a post-WWII refugee camp before moving to America. The trauma of this experience, coupled with an abusive childhood, left indelible marks on the artist that she channels into her unparalleled artistic practice. Working primarily with cedar, von Rydingsvard’s monumental sculptures have been featured in the Venice Biennale, and are held in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
